Welcome to Summer 2021! It is teeming with activity here at Meals on Wheels of Central Maryland, Inc. (MOWCM) as teen summer programs, corporate packing groups, and hundreds of delivery volunteers and dedicated staff work together to feed Maryland’s most vulnerable.

Prior to the pandemic, MOWCM delivered hot and cold meals to clients five days a week. To keep clients safe during the pandemic, we transitioned to delivering frozen meal boxes once a week. With the help of the entire community, we rose to the challenges of the past year through safely packaging, preparing, and delivering over 3,500,000 frozen meals since March 2020! Over the last few months, we have been closely monitoring positivity rates, infections, and vaccinations throughout the state.

Maintaining safety precautions (social distancing, masks, cleaning procedures), we are ready to ‘unbox’ and return to daily deliveries of hot and cold meals on July 6th, delivering the nutrition and isolation-reduction services that define our “More than a meal” approach. Because of this transition, we have a great need for volunteers to deliver those meals to our aging and homebound neighbors.

Just an hour or so is all it takes to make a difference. No long-term commitment required. Areas with greatest needs include Baltimore City, Columbia, Dundalk, Essex, Glen Burnie, and Severna Park.

If you are able to help in adopting a local delivery route this summer, please email volunteer@mowcm.org. The pandemic response would not have been possible without the support our of community and volunteers, and this transition will not happen without your help.

This summer is truly a Season of Hope… a time for us to reflect on the year past while preparing to deliver the nutritious meals, personal contact, and related services that our clients so desperately need.
