Janice BenensonMeals on Wheels Board of Directors—Vice Chair Of The Site Representative Council
Janice Benenson is a native of New York City who relocated to Maryland 15 years ago to be near her daughter and grandchildren. She has a B.A. in Communications from Queens College of the City University of New York and an M.A. from The University of Missouri. Janice taught Communications at Hunter College and Queens College in New York before entering the business world.
After working for Guardian Life Insurance Company for 18 years Janice became the Chief Operating Officer of Heritage Financial Consultants in Hunt Valley MD. In 2015 Janice retired and was looking for a very meaningful volunteer experience. A neighbor and good friend suggested Meals on Wheels and she was “hooked” after one day of delivering meals. A lifelong advocate and believer in volunteerism Janice taught Stop Smoking Clinics for the American Cancer Society in Rockland County, New York for 15 years and volunteered as a Community Educator for Volunteer Counseling Service, serving the needs of abused spouses and at-risk youth, for 10 years.
Since arriving in Maryland Janice became a volunteer tutor for the Dyslexia Tutoring Program in Baltimore and an Adult Life Skills teacher at Sarah’s Hope shelter for homeless women and families.
She has been delivering Meals on Wheels for almost three years and finds this to be the most meaningful and rewarding volunteer experience.
Janice lives in Owings Mills and has two children and four grandchildren.
