The Home Delivered Meal Program

By providing nutritious meals to people who are homebound, due to age or disability, Meals on Wheels of Central Maryland, Inc. (MOWCM) supports independent living and quality of life for individuals who wish to remain in their own homes.

MOWCM is available in regions of Baltimore City as well as Anne Arundel, Baltimore, CarrollHarford, Howard, Montgomery & specific areas of Prince George's counties.

Tell me more about the Home Delivered Meal service.
• A caring volunteer makes the delivery between the hours of 10:30 am and 1:00 pm
• Each delivery is two meals, a hot lunch and a cold supper
• Meals are delivered Monday through Friday
• For holidays falling during the week, frozen meals are provided in advance

  • Menus and special diets, nutritional information:
    • Each hot lunch served is a well-rounded meal containing a protein, vegetable and starch.
    • On average, the two meals served each day contain less than 2000 mg of Sodium.
    • These two meals also provide approximately 1300-1500 calories.
    • All fruits served are appropriate for a diabetic diet as long as it contains no added sugar
    • 1% milk is provided with meals to deliver B12 & Calcium, both of which are important for older adults.
    • Whole wheat bread is supplied with most meals as a great source of whole grain.

Meals on Wheels offers a variety of diets:
• A texture-modified diet is available for clients who have trouble chewing or swallowing.
• Other diet choices include "no fish" and "no  pork" options.
• Kosher meals are available to our friends in the Jewish community that live in the Baltimore metropolitan area|
• Emergency meal kits (EMKs) are provided for clients at the beginning of winter in case of snow emergencies
  where meals cannot be delivered.

What is the cost of the service?
Meals on Wheels charges a fee based on a sliding scale that takes into account the client's income and acceptable expenses. Our staff works with each client to determine their specific fee. Food assistance benefits available through the Independence Card are accepted for payment, as well as Master Card and Visa.

How do you qualify?
Applicant must be a Maryland resident living in our service area.
Eligible individuals are the homebound and those unable to shop for their food or prepare their own meals.
Service is provided regardless of age or economic status.
Home Delivered Meal service may be ordered on a temporary or permanent basis.

What information is needed
Before you call, please gather the following:

  • Applicant's full name, address and phone number
  • Applicant's Social Security Number & date of birth
  • Applicants's major health problems list
  • Name, address and phone number of two emergency contacts
  • Income and expenses for the applicant
  • (and spouse, if applicable)
