Meals on Wheels of Central Maryland celebrates its 50th Anniversary this year with two corporations whose leadership recognized our common cause - to provide food and companionship to individuals who are homebound, frail, and elderly in the Baltimore metropolitan area.
KAISER PERMANENTE MID-ATLANTIC distinguished itself by becoming the first Presenting Sponsor of our 18th Annual Culinary Extravaganza held May 3 at the Renaissance Harborplace Hotel. Kaiser's pace-setting sponsorship gift of $25,000 helped us achieve a record-setting corporate sponsorship total of $150,250. In addition to their presence at the Culinary Extravaganza, Kaiser is helping us communicate throughout the community the important link between good nutrition and wellness by sponsoring a Meals on Wheels delivery van bearing the name, logo, and Kaiser message of "Thrive."
Kaiser Permanente of the Mid-Atlantic States region, headquartered in Rockville, Maryland, provides and coordinates complete health care services for almost 500,000 members through 30 medical office buildings in Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C. Kaiser Permanente of the Mid-Atlantic States, founded in 1980, is a total health organization composed of Kaiser Foundation Health Plan of the Mid-Atlantic States, Inc., and the Mid-Atlantic Permanente Medical Group, P.C., an independent medical group that features approximately 900 physicians who provide or arrange care for patients throughout the area. GEICO (Government Employees Insurance Company) also teamed with Meals on Wheels of Central Maryland this year in a year-long partnership to meet the challenges in alleviating hunger among the homebound population in our region. Several members of GEICO's regional team headquartered in Fredericksburg, VA, and the GEICO Gecko, recently presented Meals on Wheels with a GEICO Philanthropic Foundation contribution of $25,000 and dedicated a Meals on Wheels/GEICO meal delivery van that will help us inform others about our important mission. GEICO and the GEICO Gecko will have a visible presence at a number of Meals on Wheels events this year that will highlight the charitable mission we've been dedicated to pursuing for the past 50 years, as well as the selfless commitment of our over 2,000 program volunteers. And special thanks to GEICO for wishing all of our clients a Happy July 4th holiday this year - a GEICO Gecko label was attached to all of our cold meals that clients received over the July 4th holiday!
