Volunteer Opportunities
Meals on Wheels is in need of dedicated volunteers to help us fulfill our charitable mission. Flexible volunteer time is available - volunteer weekly, bi-weekly, monthly or on an as-needed basis. Meals are delivered Monday - Friday, including holidays that fall during the week, between 11:00 am - 1:30 pm.
Drivers: Drive a set route accompanied by a volunteer visitor. Drivers are urgently needed in all three locations.
- Volunteer drivers in Howard County pick up pre-packed meals at Bain Senior Center in Columbia.
- Montgomery County volunteer drivers pick up their meals at the Inter-faith Chapel in Leisure World.
Visitors: Visitors, who accompany the drivers, deliver the meals and spend a few minutes in a friendly visit with the clients.
Packers: Volunteers can also pack meals at Bain Senior Center in Columbia. Volunteers pack meals between 8:30am 11:00 am (approximate time).
Personal Grocery Shopper: This is the perfect volunteer opportunity for those who work full-time. Volunteers can pick up a client's grocery list and shop at a time mutually convenient for both.
Funds for purchase of a "Hot Shot" vehicle (above) were donated by the Montgomery County Council and The Carl M. Freeman Foundation. The vehicle keeps food at the proper temperatures from preparation to delivery to clients.
